Black Stars Coach Carlos Queiroz Names 28-Man Squad for Wales Friendly and World Cup Camp

Head coach Carlos Queiroz has named a 28-man squad for Ghana’s final preparatory camp and international friendly against Wales ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The squad, which includes five goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders and seven forwards, have already assembled in Cardiff where the Black Stars officially opened camp on Monday, May 25, 2026. Training is already underway at Dragon Park ahead of the friendly set for Tuesday, June 2.
Notable names in the squad include several key returnees. Baba Abdul Rahman makes a surprise comeback after years away from the national team, while Ernest Nuamah returns after nearly a year on the sidelines. Defender Abdul Mumin has also earned a recall following strong club performances this season.
The squad features many established stars such as Thomas Partey, Kwasi Sibo, Fatawu Issahaku, Christopher Bonsu Baah, Antoine Semenyo, Iñaki Williams, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Jordan Ayew.
However, there is a major talking point with the absence of Mohammed Kudus, who misses out due to injury concerns.
The 28-man squad is expected to be trimmed down after the Wales friendly, with two players to be cut before the final 26-man squad is submitted to FIFA. Reports suggest the reductions may come from the goalkeeping department.
This Wales encounter serves as Ghana’s final major test before heading to North America for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
Carlos Queiroz and his technical team will be using the coming days to fine-tune tactics and finalise selections as the Black Stars aim to make a strong impression at the tournament.
