W/R: Boy Shot Dead in Adelekezu Riot over Mining Concession

A boy has died after a stray bullet hit him during a confrontation between some youth of Adelekezu near Dadwen in the Axim District of the Western Region and private security men of a mining company.

According to a police report, the youth attempted to invade the company’s concession on December 13, 2025.

“In the process, they attempted to take one of the security men’s pump action gun from him, which he resisted, and fired, hitting the boy.”

The victim was pronounced dead on arrival after being rushed to the Axim Government Hospital for treatment.

In response, the infuriated youth of the town raided the site, setting some properties of the company ablaze, including two 4/4 SUV vehicles, two tipper trucks and one pickup, a Toyota Land Cruiser.

A police team reportedly intervened to rescue 11 of the workers while arresting five suspects for causing harm and causing unlawful damage.

The suspects have been identified as Gyenyame Owusu, 38 years, Matthew Asamah, 24 years, Nana Yaw, 15 years, Yaw Opoku,16 years, and Kojo Agyei, 21 years.

“The Western Regional Command calls on the members of the Community to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation to ensure justice is served.”
