NIA Rolls Out 4-Step Registration Process For Ghanaians Living Abroad

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has rolled out a new registration process to enable Ghanaians living abroad to obtain the Ghana Card without having to travel back home.
In a public notice released by its Corporate Affairs Directorate, the NIA outlined a 4-step process for Ghanaians in the diaspora, with a specific rollout in Spain and other countries outside Africa.
Under the new arrangement, applicants are first required to apply online by completing the application form and paying the registration fee at register.niagov.gh.
For Spain and countries outside Africa, the fee is set at the equivalent of USD$115.
The second step involves a virtual interview where a registration officer reviews and approves the online application.
Applicants who are successful will then receive a confirmation and QR code.
For biometric capture, applicants are to book an appointment, print their QR code, and present it at their nearest Ghana Mission.
The final step is the collection of the Ghana Card, which will be printed and issued to the applicant.
NIA said the initiative is part of efforts to extend the Identity Management Systems II project to the diaspora and ensure all Ghanaians, regardless of location, are captured on the National Identity Register.
