Ghana Met Forecasts Thunderstorms, Coastal Rains and Mist For Thursday

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has forecast localised rains, thunderstorms, and patches of mist across parts of the country in its 18-hour impact-based forecast for Thursday, July 9, 2026.

Issued by the Central Analysis and Forecasting Office at 0500 UTC and valid from 0600 UTC, the forecast indicates that localised slight rain is expected over parts of the coast in the morning, while thunderstorms will continue to affect the extreme Upper West Region.

Patches of mist or fog are also likely over coastal, forest, and mountainous areas.

By afternoon, sunny conditions will prevail over much of northern Ghana, but thunderstorms with or without rain are expected to develop over parts of the middle sector, with mostly cloudy conditions elsewhere.

In the evening, rain and thunderstorms are anticipated in parts of the northeast and along a stretch from the middle belt to the southwest, while the rest of the country is likely to experience cloudy skies.

The Agency projects minimum temperatures to range from 22°C in the Forest and Transition zones to 25°C in the Northern sector.

Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 30°C along the Coast, 31°C in the Forest zone, 32°C in the Transition zone, and 35°C in the Northern sector.

The Ghana Met Office has classified most of the expected weather events under “Low Risk” to “Medium Risk” categories and is urging the public to stay updated as the day progresses.

Residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas are advised to take precautionary measures, especially during periods of thunderstorms.
