One Dead, Seven Injured in Winneba–Apam Highway Accident

A taxi driver has lost his life while seven persons sustained various degrees of injuries after a head-on collision between two vehicles along the Winneba–Apam highway.

The accident involving a Hyundai Jett with registration number CR 748-20 and a Toyota RAV4 with registration number GN 5507-18 happened on June 23, 2025 around 4pm.

The injured victims were mainly students from Uncle Rich and St. Paul schools, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.

They are currently receiving medical attention at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

Four of them are reported to be in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, the body of the taxi driver which was trapped in his vehicle was successfully extricated by fire officers and handed over to the Police.

Per eyewitness accounts, a wrongful overtaking caused the accident.

“An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the crash,” the GNFS said in its statement as it cautioned drivers to strictly adhere to road safety regulations to prevent fatal crashes.
