Nsamansam Initiative Is Here To Stay – KMA Environmental Officer

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Environmental Officer, Kwaku Poku, says the Nsamansam (Sanitation Taskforce) initiative will continue as a permanent sanitation intervention across the metropolis.

Speaking in an interview on Nkwantannanso on Opemsuo Radio, Mr. Poku said the initiative would not be a temporary exercise as earlier but rather a permanent effort to promote a cleaner city.

“The Nsamansam initiative is here to stay, and we have sustainability plans in place,” he said.

He explained that the Mayor has directed the taskforce to conduct random inspections every Tuesday across various parts of the metropolis to monitor sanitation conditions and ensure residents maintain proper sanitation standards.

Mr. Poku added that the Assembly plans to engage schools and communities to promote good sanitation practices among young people and encourage lasting behavioural change.

“We have plans to visit places randomly to inspect the sanitation situation and also inculcate proper sanitation attitudes in our young people in various schools,” he stated.

Touching on the recent two-day national clean-up exercise ordered by the President, Mr. Poku said the exercise recorded strong public participation, especially on Friday, as many residents joined while going about their daily activities.

He said authorities are considering organising future Sanitation Day clean-up exercises on weekdays to enhance participation and make the initiative more effective.

The KMA Environmental Officer also urged the public to report any acts of bribery involving members of the Nsamansam Taskforce to promote transparency and accountability in the enforcement of sanitation measures.
