Labour Ministry Partners with YILT Africa to Drive One Million Youth Jobs Initiative

The Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment (MLJE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Youth in Leadership Transformation (YILT) Africa to jointly implement the One Million Youth 4 Jobs Programme (1MY4JP), a bold national initiative aimed at creating one million sustainable jobs for young Ghanaians by 2032.

The agreement establishes a collaborative framework to tackle youth unemployment through skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation, agritech and labour market integration.

The partnership will focus on equipping young people, particularly women, tertiary and TVET graduates, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups, with market-relevant skills while connecting them to employment and business opportunities.

The programme will be implemented through five flagship pillars covering agricultural technology, entrepreneurship and digital enterprise, job placement services, technology and innovation support, and sports and recreation.

It also seeks to strengthen Ghana’s workforce, reduce rural-urban migration through agritech enterprise clusters, and generate more than 25,000 new jobs annually.

Under the agreement, YILT Africa will lead programme implementation, youth mobilisation, innovation ecosystem development, private sector engagement and labour market data generation through the Ghana Labour Market Information System (GLMIS).

The Ministry will provide policy direction, technical and logistical support, coordinate with key government agencies, and facilitate collaboration with relevant sector ministries to enhance programme delivery and national impact.

Both institutions will jointly oversee implementation through a National Steering Committee, monitor progress using a unified evaluation framework, and promote inclusive participation to ensure the initiative contributes meaningfully to Ghana’s long-term employment and economic transformation.
