JUST IN: Tunisia Name Two-Time AFCON Winner Hervé Renard as New Head Coach

The Tunisian Football Federation has officially confirmed the appointment of French tactician Hervé Renard as the new head coach of the Carthage Eagles.

The move comes following the jettisoning of Sabri Lamouchi after Tunisia’s heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening 2026 FIFA World Cup match.

Renard, a highly experienced coach and two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner, has been handed the reins until the end of the tournament.

According to the official announcement from the Tunisian FA, the 57-year-old will assume duties immediately, enjoying the same financial privileges as his predecessor. The agreement also includes plans to open negotiations for a long-term deal after the World Cup, based on specific sporting objectives.

A media briefing featuring the new coach has been scheduled at the team’s training ground, 30 minutes before Tuesday’s training session, where Renard is expected to address the press for the first time.

Hervé Renard will now lead Tunisia in their remaining Group stage fixtures as they fight for a place in the knockout rounds. The Carthage Eagles are scheduled to face Japan on June 21 and Netherlands on June 25.

The appointment of the respected French coach is seen as a bold attempt by Tunisian football authorities to steady the ship and salvage their 2026 World Cup campaign following a disappointing start.
