I’m Of Adwumakaase-Kese Royal Lineage — Chief Counters Opponents with Great Oath

Nana Asenso Kuffour Ababio, Adwumakaase-Kesehene, has dismissed claims contesting his royal status.

He supported his claim with the invocation of the Great Oath during a meeting of the Kumasi Traditional Council on July 30, 2026, when the case was called.

The chief, who by tradition could not appear before the Council as a result of his visual impairment, was represented by Opanin Yaw Frimpong, the family head, whose royal status is also in dispute.

Invoking the Great Oath in his defence, he said, “As a representative of the Adwumakaase-Kesehene, I invoke the Great Oath to state that I am a royal, contrary to claims by Yaw Agyei and Kwadwo Owusu.”

In accordance with tradition, the parties were each fined two rams for the requisite rites to be performed.

Background
The royal status of the Chief of Adwumakaase-Kese, Nana Asenso Kuffour Ababio, and his family head, Opanin Yaw Frimpong, has come under contention in a dispute before the Kumasi Traditional Council.

Two individuals, who identified themselves as Yaw Agyei and Kwadwo Owusu, separately invoked the Great Oath, laying claims to the stool and disputing the royal status of the chief and Abusuapanin.
