I Commit Awua Dumase to You– Otumfuo to Awua Dumasehene

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has placed Awua Dumase under the authority of Okogyeaman Kwabena Kyere II.

Okogyeaman Kwabena Kyere II swore the oath of allegiance on May 25, 2026 at the Manhyia Palace before the Asanteman Council.

Handing over the town, Otumfuo said, “I deliver the town into your care.”

He charged the new chief to remain humble and respectful toward the kingmakers, and said he was confident in the testimony he had received about him.

“When I told Boateng I wanted to give the stool to Gyimah, he told me he had someone in mind. He testified positively about you and I know you will live up to it. Awua Dumase is now in your care, take care of it for me,” Otumfuo said.

In the same spirit, he urged the kingmakers to nurture and be truthful with him.

Fiapre Elevation
Otumfuo also noted that the time had come to elevate Fiapre to a paramountcy.

“I wanted to do it earlier but you weren’t around. I had to inform you first. Now that you are here, we can go ahead with it,” he said. Background

Recounting the history of Awua Dumase, Otumfuo said Awua, a native of Bantama, had unsuccessfully sought to ascend the vacant stool.

His disappointment led him to leave and establish his settlement under an odum tree, hence the name ‘Odumase’.

“Later, he was sought and brought back to ascend the Bantama stool. Before leaving, he put his niece in charge and left,” Otumfuo said.

Over time, the town was renamed after him.

Otumfuo affirmed that all other stools within the Bono Region, including Sunyani, emerged from Awua Dumase.
