Otumfuo Hopeful Of A US-Ghana Educational Collaboration

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has expressed hope of a US-Ghana collaboration.

According to the King, the schooling system in Ghana seeks to be undergoing threats of a sort which support and collaborations from the United States could save it.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II mentioned that the Free SHS policy as it stands to be a bold initiative of Ghana finds itself within several challenges.

There is a struggle on the national budget as the policy guarantees free tuition for every individual at the senior level.

Otumfuo said the creation of job is affected in a way that there is an increased number of graduates in a year since the policy accommodate far too many numbers in school at a time.
“The current government of President Akufo Addo has introduced free education up to senior high school which now ensures that all Ghanaian children from whatever background are guaranteed free education.”

He added that, “Considering the value of education to the nation this must be one of the boldest policies for the nation. But it also brings challenges. It puts a huge strain on the national budget and raises further challenges about the creation of jobs for the increasing number of graduates.”

Addressing an audience at the Rose Theatre at the University of Memphis, Tennessee in the United States as part of activities for the International Memphis in May Festival, he assured that Ghana is on the right path in terms of its system of governance and thus “deserves the fulsome support and collaboration from the United States,” and also calling for a University of Memphis-Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) collaboration.

“I look forward to initiating collaboration between your University and our premier University of Science and Technology, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi.”
