GES Condemns Attack on Obuasi SHTS Headmaster, Promises Severe Sanctions for Culprits

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly condemned the assault on Mr Abdulai Zakaria, Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, and says all persons found to have participated in or instigated the attack will be dealt with severely in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct.
In a statement signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations for GES and released on 5th August 2026, management described the incident, which resulted in injuries to the Headmaster, as “deeply regrettable and completely unacceptable.”
The Service stated that violence, intimidation, and acts of indiscipline have no place in schools.
According to GES, the attack was carried out by a mob of students of the school.
Management has since initiated investigations into the matter in collaboration with security agencies to establish the full facts surrounding the incident.
The Service urged students to express their grievances through the appropriate channels of dialogue and engagement rather than resorting to violence or any form of misconduct.
It further called on parents, guardians, community leaders, and all stakeholders in education to support efforts aimed at promoting discipline, respect for authority, and peaceful coexistence in schools.
GES reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and orderly environment for teaching and learning across the country.
