Asantehene Thanks God for 27 Years on Golden Stool and 76 Years of Life

The occupant of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has credited God for guiding him through 76 years of life and through his reign as Asantehene.

His Majesty together with his wife, Lady Julia, attended a church service at St. Cyprian’s Cathedral on May 8, 2026, to express his profound gratitude to God on the occasion.

Otumfuo took inspiration from Luke 17:11-19, the biblical account of the ten lepers whom Jesus healed, of whom only one returned to give thanks.

Drawing from the passage, the Asantehene deemed it fitting to return with thanksgiving rather than take blessings for granted.

The former Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Prof. Kwadwo Nimfuor Opoku Onyinah, preached using Matthew 22:15-22, with emphasis on verse 22: “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and give to God what is God’s.”

The preacher affirmed that Otumfuo had embodied this principle of living faithfully amid the competing demands of honouring earthly authorities without losing allegiance to the Lord God Almighty.

“Otumfuo’s journey has been a sermon on the principle of balance. He has navigated the complexities of modern Ghanaian authority without compromising the ancient identity of Asante. You have given to the state your counsel and your support for education and health, but you have kept the heart of your people firmly anchored in their heritage and their faith,” he said.

He commended the Asantehene for remembering his Maker in his achievements.

“We want to thank Otumfuo for being grateful to the Almighty and coming to thank Him for giving him 76 years of life and 27 years of leading on the Golden Stool. It gives praise to Almighty God and affirms allegiance to Him,” he added.

Intercession
The church offered intercessory prayers for the King, his family, the Asante Kingdom, and Ghana.

Prayers were offered for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s continued health, wisdom, and strength to lead, as well as for peace and unity within the royal household.

Clergy and congregants also lifted up the Asante Kingdom, asking for prosperity and stability, while extending supplications for Ghana’s progress, national cohesion, and the well-being of its people.

Performances
The Tamale Youth Choir honoured the King with a soulful performance of their award-winning composition.

Other performers for the day were the Daughters of Glorious Jesus and the Kumasi Evangel Choir, Ghana.

His Majesty was joined by several traditional authorities, including Daasebre Osei Bonsu, Asante Mamponghene; Nana Otuo Siriboe II, Juabenhene; Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, Kumawuhene; Odeneho Okyere Kusi Ntrama, Essumegyahene; and Dr Okofrobour Nana Yaw Agyei II, Mimhene.

Dinner
The service was followed by a royal dinner, where the Asantehene hosted his guests at the Manhyia Palace.

Otumfuo dined with chiefs, clergy, dignitaries, and members of the royal household.

The centrepiece of the celebration was a symbolic three-step anniversary cake, meticulously decorated in rich gold and black colours and crowned with the Asante crest as well as Adinkra symbols.

His Majesty was firmly supported by his wife, Lady Julia, as they led a select group of dignitaries in a ceremonial cutting of the cake.

Guests with gifts also had the opportunity to present them before the King.
