AsanteheneAt76: Tamale Youth Choir Performs Popular Asantehene Composition at Thanksgiving Service

The Tamale Youth Choir honoured the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, with a soulful performance of their award-winning composition at his 27th enstoolment anniversary and 76th birthday thanksgiving service over the weekend.
The chorale group performed the song at St. Cyprian’s Cathedral on May 10, 2026, when the two milestones were observed with a church service.
The piece, first performed at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Composers Competition in 2024, has become one of the widely recognised tributes to the Asantehene.
Composed in Dagbani, Twi, and English, the music celebrates Otumfuo’s wisdom, likening it to a river and a mountain, while also highlighting his integrity and fairness in leadership.
The multilingual approach was intended to reflect both the King’s national reach and his cultural roots.
His Majesty was joined by several traditional authorities, including Daasebre Osei Bonsu, Asante Mamponghene; Nana Otuo Siriboe II, Juabenhene; Odeneho Okyere Kusi Ntrama, Essumegyahene; and Dr Okofrobour Nana Yaw Agyei II, Mimhene.
Other dignitaries present included Ivorian Ambassador to Ghana Assiélou Félix Tanon, Former Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Opare, former Minister Dr Addo Kufuor, Member of Parliament Samuel Jinapor, KNUST Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, and government official Andy Okrah.
The performance added a cultural highlight to the Thanksgiving service, underscoring the national appreciation for Otumfuo’s role in promoting peace, unity, and development.
Other performers for the day were the Daughters of Glorious Jesus and the Kumasi Evangel Choir-Ghana.
