‘True Leadership Isn’t in Undoing What Others Began’ – Otumfuo to New KNUST VC

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the newly inducted Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Christian Agyare, to build on the foundations laid by his predecessors.
At his investiture on August 1, 2026, the Chancellor stated that true leadership is defined by continuity, not by starting from scratch.
His Majesty indicated that the foundations have already been laid, and therefore the need is to build on them.
“Today, Prof. Christian Agyare assumes office not to begin a new story but to continue a distinguished legacy and help shape the next chapter in KNUST’s remarkable journey. The true measure of leadership is not in undoing what others have begun. Still, in preserving what is proven to be valuable, improving what requires attention, and creating new opportunities for those who will come after,” he said.
Otumfuo further referenced the KNUST Act, 2025 (Act 1157), the 10-Year Corporate Strategic Plan (PLAN 2K35), and the ongoing drafting of a Statute for senior staff promotion as frameworks for transformation designed to shape the future of the university.
“Your responsibility, therefore, is not to redefine the destination but to provide the leadership, vision, and stewardship needed to guide the university community faithfully and purposefully towards it,” he added.
Present at the event were Juabenhene Nana Otuo Sereboe II, Bompatahene Nana Effah Appenteng, immediate past VC Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams, and Ashanti Regional Minister Frank Amoakohene.
Prof. Agyare is the 13th VC of KNUST.
