Otumfuo Urges New KNUST VC to Lead with Consultation and Confidence

The Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has charged the newly inducted Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christian Agyare, to provide leadership that inspires confidence across the university community.

Speaking at the investiture on August 1, 2026, Otumfuo noted that Prof. Agyare’s experience as a former Provost gives him deep insight into the concerns of students, staff, alumni and other stakeholders.

“Now becoming a Vice Chancellor, you must rise above these concerns and provide solutions that will inspire confidence,” he said.

The Asantehene stressed that leadership is tested in difficult moments, not in their absence.

“Leadership is not the absence of challenges but the ability to transform them into opportunities. As you begin this important journey, I want you to reflect on this,” Otumfuo stated.

He further emphasised that authority alone cannot command followership as people voluntarily follow leaders who listen, consult and show respect.

“The office that you are going to occupy confers authority, but authority alone does not inspire confidence. People willingly follow leaders who listen when they speak, who consult before they decide and who respect those they lead. I am told you have already consulted as many people as possible, and so that’s a good start,” he said.
