Never Miss Your Traditional Duties to My Palace – Otumfuo Tells Akrodiehene

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has charged the Paramount Chief of Akrodie Traditional Council, Nana Kwabena Akwaboah Ababio, to uphold his traditional mandate to the Manhyia Palace.

Traditionally, Akrodie’s role is to supply the Asantehene with meat from hunting expeditions.

This duty dates back to the era of Afum Agyei, a native of Denkyira Apaaso who migrated to Asante with his family.

History
Narrating the history, Otumfuo said they first settled at Asafo before the Asantehene allocated them land to stay. Over time, the place became too small for them.

During one hunting expedition, Afum found a site that appeared to be an eagles’ feeding ground and sought the Asantehene’s permission to relocate there.

That place is now called Akrodie, Otumfuo said.

Otumfuo charged Nana Akwaboah Ababio to prioritise his traditional duties to the palace. “Never forget to bring in meat. That is how you will serve me,” he said.

Return of Stool
Touching on the successful return of the stool from Aduana to the Ekuona clan, Otumfuo said it affirmed his resolve to correct every wrong within his kingdom.

His Majesty described the stool as a great one that required the highest standard of administration.

Otumfuo further charged the Ekuona Family Head to train the new leader in the history and traditions of the stool.

The Asantehene also urged the Kontihene of Akrodie to assume his responsibility toward the new traditional ruler.
