GTEC Flags 80 Institutions as Unrecognised Over Quality Assurance Concerns

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has warned the public to exercise caution with certificates issued by 80 institutions, which it says are currently not recognised due to quality assurance concerns.

In a public notice dated Thursday, June 25, 2026, GTEC said the affected institutions are not recognised by the Commission, and prospective students, employers, and the general public should verify any qualifications obtained from them.

The Commission noted that the list includes both foreign and Ghana-based schools flagged for failing to meet regulatory standards.

Among the institutions named are Universidad Azteca in Mexico, Indian School of Management and Studies in India, Breyer State Theology University and Atlantic International University in the USA, Debest College of Science, Arts and Business in Ghana, Faith University Seminary and Doxa Open University in Ghana, and Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Training School in Ghana.

Others span the UK, Switzerland, Nigeria, Liberia, Costa Rica, Italy, Cambodia, Barbados, Andorra, Ireland, and France.

GTEC emphasised that it is mandated to ensure a world-class tertiary education system for national development, and that recognition by the Commission is required for any institution operating legally in Ghana.

The Commission advised the public to exercise due diligence before enrolling in any programme or accepting certificates from the listed schools.

The Commission did not indicate whether sanctions or further action would be taken against the Ghana-based institutions on the list.

Below is a list of the 80 schools:
