Police Arrest Notorious Drug Peddler ‘Con Papa’ in Kumasi Sweep, Seize Narcotics

The Ghana Police Service has arrested several suspected drug peddlers and recovered substantial quantities of narcotic substances during intelligence-led operations across the Kumasi Metropolis.
The operations, carried out by the Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, targeted locations identified through intelligence as centres for the distribution and sale of narcotic drugs.
One of the major operations conducted at Asawase led to the arrest of 61-year-old Kwame Afriyie, alias “Con Papa” and “American Man,” described by police as a notorious drug peddler. A search of his room and provision shop yielded 33 and 48 parcels respectively of compressed substances suspected to be cannabis.
A subsequent operation at Asafo resulted in the arrest of Kofi Acheampong, alias “Mokobiley.”
Police said a search of his room revealed 311 transparent rubber sachets containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotics, 13 compressed parcels of dried leaves, 10 brown paper wraps with black rock-like substances suspected to be narcotics, and quantities of restricted pharmaceutical products.
At Krofrom, 22-year-old National Service personnel Michael Owusu Agyeman was arrested with 15 bottles of fruit juice suspected to have been laced with cannabis.
Further operations at Atonsu-Bokuro, Krofrom, Kenyase, Asokwa, Buokrom, and Asafo BB led to the arrest of Adamu Ibrahim, 44; Stanley Boahene, 24; Favour Emmanuel, 23; Abubakar Sadick, 28; Adwoa Serwaa Boamah, 36; Paul Quagraine, 40; and Nana Kwasi Natson Yaaba, 31.
Exhibits recovered included compressed parcels of suspected cannabis, tramadol, ecstasy tablets, amphetamine tablets, suspected cocaine, and other controlled substances.
All exhibits have been secured for forensic examination, while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other persons connected to the illicit drug trade.
The Police said all suspects have since been arraigned before the court and remanded into Police custody to reappear on later dates.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to combating the trafficking, peddling, and abuse of narcotic drugs and urged the public to provide credible information on drug-related activities.
It also commended the IGP Special Operations Team and the Ashanti Regional Command for their professionalism and efforts in disrupting criminal networks.
