Dampare ‘Ordered’ To Deal With Land Guards

Elders of Gomoa Nyanyano in the Central Region have ordered the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare to deal with the community’s main problem-land guards-in the same urgency with which the murder case of the late Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Hon. J. B. Danquah was tackled.
This follows a visit by Dr. Akufo Dampare and some members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) to the palace of Gomoa Nyanyano on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, after the creation of the new Central East Region Police administration.
The elders say the presence of land guards is a headache to the entire community and therefore charged him to kick them out of their land.
“Here in Nyanyano, we had peace until land guards came into force. We know what you (IGP) can do. Just as you led your men to arrest the one responsible for the death of J.B Danquah, MP for Abuakwa, do same with the land guards here. Deal with land guards”
The elders also requested for more police patrols, a divisional police command and police posts.
Dr. Akufo Dampare received the elders’ applause when he said his visit was meant to listen to the elders themselves, on the current state of the community.
“The reason why God gave us two ears and one mouth is to talk less and listen more. I came here because you know more than I do so I came to hear from you and deliberate over it with my outfit”, he said.
He urged the people to rally behind the police and respect police independence.
“We will take into consideration your requests to make peace prevail…we are encouraged that the country is supporting us. The work of the police is not in words and noise. We want our works to speak for us. We have listened to you; what we have to do will be according to the law. How to make peace prevail is up to us (the police) not you. All we need is your support and help”, Dr. Dampare said.
