GNFS and Asante Akim Central Secure GH¢300,000 in Pledges to Purchase New Fire Tender

The Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly, in partnership with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has secured GH¢300,000 in financial pledges to procure a brand-new fire tender and a fire bike for the municipality.

The funds were raised during a joint accountability town hall meeting and emergency services fundraising ceremony held at the Wesley Methodist Church in Konongo.

The high-profile event gathered traditional leaders, government officials, state security agencies, assembly members, and local residents to review the Assembly’s recent financial performance and evaluate ongoing developmental projects across the municipality.

As part of its transparency mandate, the Assembly presented detailed accounts of all public revenues received alongside its direct expenditures on regional schools, health facilities, roads, markets, and drainage systems.

Addressing the stakeholders during the fundraising session, the Municipal Fire Commander, DO III Essien Joseph, highlighted a sharp increase in the demand for emergency fire and rescue operations within Konongo, Odumasi, and surrounding communities.

Adding data to the commander’s appeal, ADO I Anthony K. Barnes presented a detailed report on the station’s existing, ageing fire appliance, documenting its frequent mechanical breakdowns and how those limitations conflict with the rising number of emergency incidents recorded in the area.

The operational appeal received immediate backing from the community stakeholders, resulting in the initial GH¢300,000 pledge pool.

Following the collection of the pledges, an ad hoc committee was officially inaugurated to design and execute strategy frameworks for mobilising the remaining funds required to finalise the acquisition of both the fire tender and the specialised fire bike, which municipal authorities state are critical to enhancing rapid emergency response and safeguarding public safety.
