Police Retrieve 1,400 Rounds of Ammunition Hidden in Hen Coop at Bolgatanga Workshop

The Upper East Regional Police Command has recovered a significant cache of ammunition – 1,400 rounds- hidden inside a hen coop at a mechanic workshop near the Assemblies of God Church in Bolgatanga.

The discovery was made following a report made to the Police on 9th May, 2026 by an auto mechanic, who explained that his apprentice had stumbled upon suspicious items while sweeping the workshop premises.

Acting swiftly on the information, a team of police officers proceeded to the scene and uncovered two sealed packets concealed in fertilizer sacks within the hen coop. Each packet contained 700 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, bringing the total to 1,400 rounds.

The ammunition has since been taken into police custody for evidential purposes. Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the source and ownership of the deadly consignment.

No arrests have been announced at this stage. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
