GMTF, KATH Review Pilot Phase and Ongoing Patients Onboarding As Full Rollout Nears

Management of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have held a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of their partnership as the Trust Fund prepares for its full nationwide rollout.
The meeting focused on evaluating the outcomes of the initial 50 pilot cases enrolled under the Trust Fund, reviewing feedback from the ongoing patient onboarding process, and identifying operational gaps that need to be addressed to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme.
Officials from both institutions described the engagement as a critical milestone in strengthening collaboration between the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and one of the country’s largest referral hospitals, which is serving as a key implementation partner.
The discussions examined the experiences of the first batch of beneficiaries, with both teams assessing the effectiveness of the patient identification, verification and enrollment processes.
They also reviewed clinical and administrative procedures to ensure that eligible patients receive timely access to financial support for the treatment of chronic diseases.
Management expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, noting that valuable lessons from the pilot phase have provided practical insights that will help improve service delivery before the programme is expanded.
The meeting further highlighted the importance of tightening operational systems, improving coordination among healthcare teams, strengthening data management, and ensuring seamless communication between the Trust Fund and hospital staff as patient enrollment gathers momentum.
Officials agreed that resolving these remaining issues at this stage would position the Trust Fund for a successful nationwide implementation and guarantee a better experience for beneficiaries.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund was established to ease the financial burden on Ghanaians living with chronic diseases by providing support for the cost of treatment and essential medicines.
