Okyeame Kwame Named National Ambassador for Viral Hepatitis

Renowned musician and health advocate Mr Kwame Nsiah Apau, popularly known as Okyeame Kwame, has been designated as Ghana’s National Ambassador for Viral Hepatitis as part of activities to mark World Hepatitis Day 2026.

The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by the musician to the Ghana Health Service.

The visit served as an official introduction of Mr Nsiah Apau in his new role. It provided an opportunity to discuss plans for the launch of World Hepatitis Day and related campaign activities.

Welcoming him, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, expressed appreciation for the musician’s commitment to the fight against viral hepatitis.

He encouraged Okyeame Kwame to support not only the hepatitis programme but also other key health initiatives, including the Government’s Free Primary Health Care Programme.

Dr Akoriyea further announced his intention to officially designate him as the National Ambassador for Viral Hepatitis in Ghana, with a mandate to participate in nationwide monitoring and advocacy activities on hepatitis prevention and control.

Responding, Mr Nsiah Apau welcomed the proposal, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him, and reaffirmed his commitment to using his platform and influence to support efforts aimed at eliminating viral hepatitis.

He also pledged continued support for the Service’s broader health promotion and public education initiatives.

The 2026 World Hepatitis Day will be observed globally on July 28 under the theme of raising awareness and driving action toward the elimination of viral hepatitis.
