Veep in Washington, D.C., for Sister Cities International 70th Anniversary Conference

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has arrived in Washington, D.C., USA, to participate in the Sister Cities International 70th Anniversary Conference.

She departed Ghana on July 22, 2026 and is accompanied by some government officials.

The conference, which brings together mayors, diplomats, civil society leaders and development partners from across the world, is marking seven decades of promoting people-to-people diplomacy, cultural exchange, and city-to-city partnerships aimed at addressing global challenges.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is expected to highlight Ghana’s commitment to sub-national cooperation and share experiences on how sister-city relationships can advance education, health, trade, and sustainable development at the local level.

Her participation underscores the government’s focus on strengthening international partnerships that create direct benefits for Ghanaian communities through knowledge sharing, investment linkages, and cultural diplomacy.

The Sister Cities International 70th Anniversary Conference is being held in Washington, D.C. and will feature panel discussions, networking sessions, and the recognition of long-standing city partnerships across continents.
