High Court Grants Warrant for Police Assistance to Enforce Security Rights at Cheddar’s No. 1 Oxford Street Hotel

The High Court of Justice, Commercial Division in Accra has granted an application for a warrant for police assistance to enable COLA Holdings Limited to realise its security rights over No. 1 Oxford Street Hotel in Accra, owned by businessman Nana Kwame Bediako.

The order was issued on July 21, 2026, by the Commercial Division of the High Court under Suit No: GJ-CM/MISC/0426/2026, following an application brought by Nii Amanor Dodoo, Receiver/Manager of No. 1 Oxford Street Hotel, and COLA Holdings Limited.

The application was filed under Section 64 of the Borrowers and Lenders Act, 2020 (Act 1052), and was directed against Kensington Residential Partners 1 Limited, the company listed as the respondent and the entity that owns the property at No. 1 Oxford Street, Accra.

After hearing arguments from counsel, Tsatsu Tsikata Esq. with Tata Kosi Foliba Esq. for the applicants, and Bobby Banson Esq. with Isaac Akyerefi Mensah Esq. for the respondent, who opposed the application, the court granted leave for a Warrant for Police Assistance to be issued.

The warrant is directed at the Regional Commander of Police, Greater Accra Region, to assist to enable the 2nd Applicant, COLA Holdings Limited, to realise its security rights in respect of the property.

Background
This stems from a High  Court of England and Wales judgement ordering the 2024 Independent Presidential Candidate to pay a US$14.9 million debt to UK-based company Cola Holdings Limited.

In a broadcast in January, the Ghanaian businessman denied claims that he owes the company and classified the judgement ordering him to pay the said debt as a forged document.

According to him, the amount was accrued from a business loss from an oil bloc equally owned by both parties, adding that his shares in the block have been seized by the company.

“If you own a company with a foreigner and you both owe a debt on the company, how can one person turn this debt into my personal debt? After they held every single document for the business, which is four times the debt, how does it become my debt?

“You already have collateral, and I have paid off debt here. Let’s talk like businesspeople. How did it become Nana Kwame Bediako? It’s a company, and you can’t say I have a debt I’m running away from. No, I don’t. I have not been handed any money of such, and I have proof.”

He challenged the company to come to Ghana to mount that argument using Ghana’s judicial system, as he served notice about his preparedness to face them.
