NASPA Kumasi Metro Holds Health, Safety Programme For Service Personnel

The Kumasi Metro chapter of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) has organised a health and safety programme aimed at improving the wellbeing and emergency preparedness of National Service Personnel in the metropolis.

The programme, held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the Kumasi Metro NSS Office, featured Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training, free eye screening, health checks, and the distribution of first aid kits to participating personnel.

The CPR training session was facilitated by the Elijeko Foundation, where service personnel were taken through practical lessons on how to respond to emergencies and perform life-saving procedures, including chest compressions.

The exercise also saw Perfect Vision Eye Care provide free eye screening services, allowing personnel to check their eye health and receive professional advice.

Participants also benefited from health assessments, including blood pressure checks, Body Mass Index (BMI) checks, blood group testing, and other medical checks.

As part of efforts to equip personnel with basic emergency response tools, PROMed Supplies donated and distributed free mini first aid kits to service personnel present at the event.

Speaking after the programme, President of NASPA Kumasi Metro, Wilkinson Nana Kwadwo Ameyaw, said the initiative was part of his administration’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of National Service Personnel.

“During my campaign, I made promises and wanted this association to be effective and responsible. When I took up this mandate, I promised myself that this administration would not just talk about welfare, we would act on it,” he said.

He added that the programme demonstrated the importance of equipping service personnel with skills and resources that could help save lives.

“Today, I watched a colleague learn how to bring someone back to life with just their two hands, and I was reminded why service to service personnel must never be reduced to paperwork and pledges. Health is not a favour we do for our members; it is a right we owe them,” Mr Ameyaw stated.

He expressed appreciation to the Elijeko Foundation, Perfect Vision Eye Care, and PROMed Supplies for partnering with NASPA KMA to organise the programme.

Some participants praised the initiative, describing it as a rare opportunity for National Service Personnel to receive health support and practical training.

A National Service Personnel at HopeXchange Medical Center, said the CPR training had equipped her with skills to respond to emergencies.

“This is the first time I’ve seen NASPA organise something like this for us. The CPR training alone was worth coming for. I feel more confident now that I can help someone in an emergency,” she said.

Another participant, from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), commended the organisers for combining health screening, training, and welfare support in one programme.

A National Service Personnel at St Louis College of Education, also described the programme as impactful, saying it provided both health benefits and knowledge that could help save lives.

The NASPA Kumasi Metro leadership said the health and safety programme forms part of its broader commitment to ensuring that the welfare of National Service Personnel remains a priority throughout its tenure.
