2026 Mid-year Budget: Our Economic Outlook Isn’t Abstract Statistics – Finance Minister

Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, says the gains recorded in the economy are being felt by ordinary Ghanaians and are not just “abstract statistics.”

Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament on Thursday, Dr Forson said economic growth is exceeding target, inflation is below the projected rate, fiscal performance is stronger than programmed, and the debt trajectory is improving faster than expected.

“To the market trader whose purchasing power has improved, to the entrepreneur who can now borrow at lower interest rates to expand their businesses, and to the worker whose income now stretches further because the cedi has stabilised, these improvements are not abstract statistics. They are the dividends of sound and competent economic management,” he stated.

The Finance Minister acknowledged that the sacrifices required to restore the economy were significant and that many households continue to face challenges.

However, he maintained that the foundations of Ghana’s economy are now firmly in place.

“Fiscal discipline has been restored, macro stability has returned, confidence has been rebuilt, and the institutions needed to safeguard these things have been strengthened,” Dr Forson said.

He added that under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, the country is on a new path.

“Under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana is not going back. Ghana is moving forward,” the Minister declared.
