Ghana Will Linger Behind If We Don’t Learn Truthfulness – Otumfuo

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has condemned the reluctance to stand for the truth in Ghana, warning that the attitude will cause serious harm to the nation.

Otumfuo made the remark in relation to what he described as government support for traditional violations and illegalities.

He spoke while administering the oath of allegiance to the newly enstooled Paramount Chief of Awua Dumase on May 25, 2026.

Otumfuo stated that Sunyani and all the Bono stools trace their origin to Awua, calling it a firm truth that cannot be contested.

His Majesty noted that the Bono and Ahafo regions were partitioned by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, for administrative purposes, but their traditional allegiance remained unchanged.

“This is attested to in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana,” he said.

“Not even Nkrumah contested that these belonged to Asante. He only took three out for administrative purposes.”

Dormaa
Otumfuo asserted that Dormaa was part of Asante, noting that Nana Agyemang Badu, the predecessor of the current chief, swore allegiance to Otumfuo Sir Agyemang Prempeh.

He added that the incumbent Manso Nkwantahene was delegated to represent him at the funeral.

Sampa Illegalities
Otumfuo cited Sampa, where a legitimately enstooled chief is being contested by an individual presenting himself as the traditional leader with the government backing.

“An illegitimate chief is able to undertake the funeral of the late chief and the government is unable to speak the truth. Someone is carrying himself out as a chief in Sampa while the traditionally enstooled chief has been hindered from going there by some government machinery. The Bono Regional House of Chiefs cannot enstool a chief,” he stated.

Decrying the failure to acknowledge these facts, Otumfuo warned that the habit would undermine the country’s progress.

“If we fail to learn how to speak the truth and stand by the truth, Ghana will not progress,” he said.
