Ghana Police Bust Robbery Syndicate, Arrest 7 Including Military and Police Officers

The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspects linked to an armed robbery syndicate responsible for a string of attacks in Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi, and Takoradi.

The gang targeted victims for cash, gold, and mercury.

The arrests followed an investigation launched after Ivorian investor Mousa Bamba reported being lured to Dzorwulu under the pretense of purchasing six kilograms of gold worth $450,000.

The suspects, posing as CID operatives and military personnel, allegedly robbed him at gunpoint and fled.

Police said the probe led to the arrest of Mohammed Umaro, alias Alhaji, and Gabriel Sewornu, alias Dangote.

Further investigations implicated two military personnel — Lance Corporal Eugene Akurugu and Lance Corporal Emmanuel Arko, alias Bullet — and three police officers: Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor, and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga.

The police officers have been interdicted to allow investigations to proceed.

On May 23 and 24, 2026, intelligence-led operations by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector General of Police resulted in the arrest of three more suspects: Justin Oduro, alias Don King alias Mafia, Clement Gyasi, and Farouk Zakari.

All seven suspects are in police custody assisting with investigations.

The Police Service said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices connected to the syndicate.
