First Batch of Ghanaians in Iran Evacuated- Foreign Minister

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has communicated the successful evacuation of the first batch of Ghanaians in Iran.
According to him, they were evacuated to Turkey.
It comes after he held a meeting with the Ambassador of Iran, H.E. Ali Ghomshi, on Wednesday.
“So far, the first batch of Ghanaians in Iran have been evacuated to Turkey successfully,” he reported in a statement on June 20, 2025.
Meanwhile, he said that the evacuation of Ghanaians from Israel will take place shortly.
“Our fellow nationals living in Israel will be evacuated shortly.”
Evacuation has become essential as conflict between Iran and Israel escalates with the exchange of missiles.
Though the exact number of Ghanaians in Iran is currently unknown, those in Israel are said to be 922 with 65 being students studying in six Israeli universities.
Initially, the Foreign Ministry of Ghana said it was seeking the express authorization of Israeli authorities to evacuate its citizens as borders have been closed.
