BoG Governor Meets X Content Creators, Pledges Support on Digital Payouts

Bank of Ghana Governor Johnson Pandit Asiama has reached out to Ghanaian content creators on X, formerly Twitter, to address concerns over access to digital platform payouts.

The engagement follows the Bank’s statement on April 20, 2026, which responded to complaints raised by creators regarding difficulties receiving earnings from the platform.

Governor Dr. Asiama assured the creators that the Bank “places a premium on their work, just like the export of cocoa,” describing digital content creation as a legitimate service export contributing to foreign exchange inflows.

“Therefore, if you have any issues with your payouts, we are ready to help,” the Governor said. “We are making ourselves accessible so that we resolve all the issues that you have.”

He encouraged the creators to organise into a formal association to streamline engagement with the Bank and enable early resolution of challenges.

“We are interested in what you are doing and will do everything to facilitate your work,” he added.

Under existing foreign exchange regulations, service export proceeds may be received through Foreign Exchange Accounts held with banks in Ghana, or through Ghana Cedi accounts, provided transactions are processed in line with regulatory requirements.

The meeting forms part of the Bank’s broader effort to improve FX market transparency and support emerging digital service exporters.

Creators present at the meeting welcomed the Governor’s commitment and said they would begin steps to formalise an industry body for continued dialogue with regulators.
