Ablakwa Observes Gov’t Mouthpieces Shy Away From Issues About Akufo-Addo’s Travels

Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has observed the government’s communication team has for almost a year, shied away from commenting on presidential trips on rented Jets.

“Why does the entire government communication machinery run into hiding at a Usain Boltic speed anytime we put out revelations on President Akufo-Addo’s oligarchic charted jet travels”? he asked in a statement.

He noted that the silence of the government in this regard has remained for the past eleven months.

Ablakwa interpreted it as an adoption of K. K Kabobo’s “Run away” mechanism for survival.

But stated that “transparency and accountability are not optional choices but an obligation”.

“We shall continue to demand total and absolute accountability”, he concluded.

Last year, Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communication at the Presidency, came out to debunk Ablakwa’s allegation that the President chartered a VIP jet known as Boeing 737-900ER BBJ3 during his trips to the United Kingdom and Germany in July that cost the nation £14,000 per hour.

“I travel with the President on every single trip. On the trip to the United Kingdom for the Global Educational Summit, and subsequently to Germany, the President did not use this LI-DIO. This information he (Hon. Ablakwa) put out there is incorrect”, Arhin said during a press briefing at the Jubilee House.

Since then, nothing has been heard from the side of the government when it comes to the constant allegations made by Ablakwa so far, except in Parliament last year when the Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Bryan Acheampong, revealed he had advised the National Security Minister, Kan Dapaa to hold his lips when it comes to that topic.

“In my capacity as a member of Parliament, with some knowledge on security matters, Mr. Speaker, I have advised the Minister of National Security to continue to keep the Information on the presidential travels secret and if we may lift it to top-secret because it is not every information that can be divulged to the public”, he stated.
