506 Feed Ghana Brigadiers Pass Out to Drive Agricultural Transformation at District Level

A new cohort of 506 agriculture graduates has passed out as Feed Ghana Brigadiers, with the government tasking them to serve as the link between national agricultural policy and delivery at the district level.
The Minister for Agriculture, Eric Opoku, said the Brigadiers underwent specialised training at the Ghana Police Training School aimed at building discipline, duty, resilience, teamwork and respect for authority.
“This specialised training, distinct from traditional agricultural education, focused on instilling discipline, a strong sense of duty, resilience, teamwork, and respect for authority,” Mr Opoku said at the passing-out ceremony held on Tuesday morning.
According to the Minister, the goal was to equip the officers with qualities needed for effective field service and agricultural transformation.
By combining technical expertise with discipline and a mission-oriented approach, the Brigadiers are expected to become “ambassadors of production, hard work, and national renewal.”
As District Feed Ghana Coordinators, they will coordinate activities, mobilise stakeholders, monitor progress and ensure the integrity of program execution in all agricultural districts. The Minister said their role goes beyond technical support.
“They are expected to be proactive in driving agricultural development, ensuring accountability, and contributing to visible results across all agricultural districts,” he stated.
The Feed Ghana Programme, Mr Opoku explained, is a major national initiative designed to tackle food security, create jobs and boost economic prosperity.
The Brigadiers will work directly with farmers and communities through a hands-on approach intended to promote improved farming practices, increase production and solve practical challenges on the ground.
The Minister said the initiative is also meant to reduce Ghana’s reliance on food imports and strengthen agribusiness.
“This initiative is designed to reduce reliance on imports, strengthen agribusiness, and ultimately build a more self-sufficient Ghana,” he noted.
Mr Opoku projected substantial impact from the deployment of the Brigadiers.
He said bringing discipline, coordination and accountability to agricultural initiatives will improve the efficiency of farming practices, increase domestic production, reduce waste and enhance food security.
He added that the programme’s focus on agribusiness and youth employment will also stimulate economic growth.
“The strategic deployment of these officers across districts ensures that the benefits of agricultural transformation are widespread, supporting the government’s vision, the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda,” the Minister said.
