A/R: Police Intercept 188 Vehicles in Crackdown on Sirens, Strobe Lights and Road Offences

The Ghana Police Service has intensified enforcement against the unauthorised use of sirens, horns, strobe lights and improvised headlamps in the Ashanti Region as part of efforts to promote road discipline and safety.
The special operation was conducted at the Airport Roundabout and Santasi Roundabout in Kumasi by the Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department, with support from the Central MTTD in Accra and a team from the National Headquarters.
During the exercise, 188 vehicles were intercepted for various traffic offences.
According to the Police, the unauthorised devices and improvised headlamps found on the vehicles were removed and seized.
The drivers were also educated and cautioned to comply with the Road Traffic Regulations.
Officers paid particular attention to the unlawful use of road shoulders and verges, which have become a major source of congestion in parts of Kumasi.
The Ghana Police Service said the operation forms part of a broader national effort to check indiscipline on the roads.
“The Ghana Police Service will continue similar enforcement exercises across the country to promote discipline, safety, and order on the roads,” a statement from the Service noted.
Authorities have in recent months raised concerns about the misuse of sirens and emergency lights by civilians, as well as the mounting of improvised headlamps and strobe lights that distract other road users, especially at night.
