Ghana, South Korea Sign US$28 Million Deal for Phase 2 of Digital STEM Education Project

The Government of Ghana and the Government of the Republic of Korea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to roll out the second phase of the Digital STEM Education Project, with Korea committing US$28 million to expand digital learning in Ghanaian schools.
The six-year project will run from 2026 to 2032 and will extend interventions to four regions: Central, Eastern, Ashanti and Northern.
Under the agreement, the project will also support the construction of the Accra STEM Park, strengthen the Northern STEM Resource Centre, and push for wider integration of digital technologies into STEM education.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister for Education Hon. Haruna Iddrisu said education remains the foundation of national development and that the project is designed to equip learners with critical digital skills from the basic level.
“This project will introduce robotics, coding, electronics and artificial intelligence at the basic education level,” he said.
The Minister also announced that the Ministry will roll out a revised curriculum for kindergarten to junior high school before September 30, with digital education as a key component.
Hon. Iddrisu expressed appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for their continued support to Ghana’s education sector.
Korean Ambassador to Ghana Park Kyongsig and KOICA Country Director Dong Hyun Lee also reaffirmed Korea’s commitment to partnering with Ghana to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
They said the partnership is aimed at advancing digital STEM education and preparing Ghanaian learners for opportunities in a technology-driven economy.
The first phase of the Digital STEM Education Project focused on pilot schools and teacher training.
The second phase is expected to scale up infrastructure, resources and curriculum reforms nationwide.
