Asante Youth Association Demands Reinstatement of Sacked KATH CEO

A Kumasi-based pressure group, the Asante Youth Association (AYA), is demanding the reinstatement of Prof. Otchere Addae-Mensah, the outgoing Chief Executive Officer of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The dismissal of Prof. Otchere Addae-Mensah came as a surprise to many Ghanaians, particularly residents of the Kumasi Metropolis, due to what they describe as his exceptional administration of one of the nation’s premier health facilities.
His innovation, restoration of discipline, and above all, the Heal Komfo Anokye Project have won him the admiration of the general public.
Arguably, Prof. Otchere Addae-Mensah is seen as one of the most outstanding Chief Executive Officers the nation has had in recent times. His dismissal, therefore, came as the least expected outcome for residents of Kumasi.
Nana Oppong Boadi, Vice President of AYA, addressing the media in Kumasi this morning, said the dismissal of the hardworking CEO is politically motivated and a gross disrespect to the Asantehene, considering that the outgoing CEO was executing a mandate entrusted to him by the King — the Heal KATH Project. The group believes his absence will put the future of the project in limbo.
“We are urging this government not to politicise our health. Since taking office, this CEO has been professional and has worked diligently, only to wake up to a letter purporting to replace Prof. Otchere Addae-Mensah with one Baidoo,” he said.
“We are asking the President to reverse the decision and allow the CEO to complete his term of office and the King’s project,” he added.
According to the group, Prof. Addae-Mensah has made significant efforts and is gradually restoring the status of the facility. Therefore, they do not see the need for any decision to replace such a hardworking CEO.
