A/R: 186 Suspects Arrested as Police Smash Transnational Crime Ring

The Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team has recorded a major breakthrough against organised crime in the Ashanti Region, arresting 186 suspects and rescuing trafficking victims in a 10-day intelligence-led swoop.

The operations, conducted from June 8 to June 17, 2026, were carried out jointly by the IGP’s SOT from National Police Headquarters, Accra and the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

They targeted criminal networks involved in human trafficking, sexual exploitation, narcotics trafficking and unlawful possession of firearms.

Police executed coordinated raids in Asafo, Kenyase Aframa, Asokwa, Buokrom, Krofrom, Atonsu-Bokuro, Asawase and Old Tafo Ahenbronum.

The arrests included 86 Ghanaian nationals, 96 Nigerian nationals and 4 Togolese nationals.

The biggest breakthrough came on June 9 at Kenyase Aframa, where Gladys Ibrahim, alias “Mama Gee,” was arrested alongside 96 Nigerians and 4 Togolese nationals.

Preliminary investigations show the group is linked to a transnational criminal network engaged in trafficking, sexual exploitation and drug trafficking.

As part of the operations, several persons believed to be victims of exploitation were rescued.

Some were minors and were immediately separated from suspects and placed under protective care under child protection protocols.

Foreign nationals identified as victims are being processed with the Ghana Immigration Service for immigration and repatriation procedures.

The Ghana Police Service said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the network. All suspects remain in custody or are assisting with investigations.

The Command commended the professionalism of the SOT and Ashanti Regional Command for the successful execution of the operations.

It reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led policing to combat organised crime and protect public safety.

“Ghana Police Service remains resolute in its commitment to intelligence-led policing and will continue to undertake sustained operations to combat organised crime and ensure the safety and security of all persons in the country,” the statement read.
