Stanbic Bank Ghana Presents 50 Laptops to Support KNUST VC Initiative

Stanbic Bank Ghana, a financial institution, donated 50 laptops to the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, on Friday, August 22, 2025, as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The donation was made to support the VC’s initiative dubbed “Support One Needy Student with One Laptop.”
This brings Stanbic Bank Ghana’s total contribution since the Covid-19 era to 350 laptops, aimed at empowering more students with the tools to thrive, particularly female students at KNUST.
The Executive Head for Brands and Marketing at Stanbic Bank, Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, further explained the rationale behind the donation in an interview with Opemsuo.com.
According to him, traditionally fewer females pursue science and technology studies compared to males.
According to him, traditionally there are fewer people when it comes to science and technology studies as compared with males.
Mr. Afadzinu stressed that when more female students enter the science and technology field, it enhances national development.
He noted that it is very important for female students to be encouraged into science and technology at all levels of education.
Mr. Afadzinu also revealed that the Bank has adopted a five-year action plan aimed at supporting KNUST, with a focus on providing assistance to needy students pursuing studies in science and technology.
“Over the last five years we have donated 350 laptops to KNUST,” Mr. Mawuko stressed.
Some of the beneficiaries, on their part, expressed profound gratitude to Stanbic Bank Ghana.
In addition, the first beneficiaries of the Bank’s laptop support project shared how the laptops have improved their studies, highlighting their usefulness in research and online learning.
“The laptops have been beneficial to us; they have helped us in the line of research and online studies.”
