Wendy Shay’s Mother Feared Trolls Would Destroy Her Career Over Ebony Reigns Comparisons

Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has opened up about the intense online trolling that almost forced her to quit music entirely.
The backlash she faced was so severe that her mother even suggested she stop pursuing her career and move back to Germany to escape the pressure.
Wendy explained that the negative attacks didn’t just affect her—they impacted her whole family.
Some relatives felt embarrassed to be seen with her because of the harsh criticism she endured. This made the situation even harder on Wendy, as she felt the pain ripple through her loved ones.
“At a point, my mum asked me to quit music and return to Germany because the trolling was overwhelming and it affected everyone in my family. Some of my relatives were even kind of shy to associate with me at the time.”
The trolls were relentless, often editing her pictures to make her look older and mocking her talent.
Many accused her of copying the late Ebony Reigns, which fueled even more hostility from music fans. The level of ridicule was overwhelming and took a serious emotional toll on Wendy.
Despite the difficult times and the pressure from her family to quit, Wendy persevered.
She credited the support of loyal fans and her own resilience for helping her push through the negativity. Over time, she has earned several awards, including honors at the 3Music Awards and Ghana Music Awards.
