Police Arrest Suspect After UEW Lecturer Disappears and Is Found Buried

A senior lecturer from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has been found murdered and secretly buried at his residence in Effutu Gyahadze, Effutu Municipality, Central Region.
The victim, Prof. Amedeke from the Chemistry Department, was reported missing by his colleagues on May 21, 2025, after repeated attempts to contact him failed.
“The deceased lecturer had been reported missing on 21st May, 2025 by his colleagues who had indicated to Police that all efforts to reach him had yielded no response.”
Following the report, police visited Prof. Amedeke’s home, where they discovered bloodstains leading to a heap of sand some meters away from the house.
Upon excavating the site, authorities uncovered the professor’s body buried beneath the sand.
“Police also discovered some blood stains which were traced to a heap of sand about 23 metres from the house. Upon clearing the sand, a body believed to be that of the missing lecturer was found buried. The body was recovered and deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.”
The remains have been exhumed and taken to the morgue for autopsy and preservation.
The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of a suspect, identified as Joshua Karry Arthur, who was found at the scene and taken into custody.
Police seized several items belonging to the deceased from the suspect, including two Samsung phones, a laptop, a 50-inch television, and a key to a Toyota Fortuner vehicle.
The police indicated that investigations are ongoing, with the suspect cooperating fully and expected to be charged in court soon.
