W/R: Two Dead in Head-On Crash at Abease

Two people have died after a head-on collision between a Sinotruck and a Nigerian passenger bus at Abease on the Elubo-Takoradi Highway.

The Ghana National Fire Service [GNFS] said a distress call was received at 11:53 am on Tuesday, reporting the accident.

Appliance DPT 465, with a crew of five led by ADO II Clement Arthur and ADOI Issifu Dauda Kaku, was dispatched immediately and arrived at the scene at 11:59 am.

The crew found five occupants of the bus and one occupant of the tipper truck trapped in the wreckage.

Onlookers had already rescued three casualties before firefighters arrived.

“Rescue efforts were effected, and four casualties were sent to Elubo Government Hospital,” GNFS stated.

The bus driver died at the scene, while a mate of the Sinotruck died later at the hospital.

Both bodies were deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation.

Preliminary investigations by the GNFS attribute the accident to the bus driver swerving to avoid a pothole and veering into the lane of the oncoming truck.

Registration numbers involved were GS 3789-24 for the Sinotruck Howo and AAA 449 YN for the Nigerian bus.

After the rescue, the crew disconnected battery terminals, cooled the overheated engine compartment, and cleared debris from the road to ensure safety for other motorists.
