US Grants Green Card to Ken Ofori-Atta, Rejects Ghana Criminal Charges as “Not Credible”

A United States Immigration Court has granted the Form I-485 Green Card petition for permanent residency filed by Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

The ruling was disclosed in an official statement issued by his solicitor, Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo Esq.

During the immigration proceedings, the court extensively reviewed evidence surrounding domestic legal actions taken against the former minister by Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Particular attention was paid to the OSP’s controversial decision to publicly declare Mr Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice.

Evidence brought before the U.S. court proved that the OSP issued the fugitive declaration at a time when Mr Ofori-Atta was actively undergoing medical treatment in the United States, and while his legal team in Ghana maintained consistent communication with state investigators.

Upon reviewing the state of affairs and the context of the state’s actions, the United States Immigration Court explicitly found that the pending criminal corruption charges brought against Mr Ofori-Atta in Ghana were “not credible.”

His legal team, however, clarified that the court’s landmark ruling was strictly issued within the boundaries of a United States immigration proceeding.

The scope of the court’s definitive decision remained fundamentally focused on whether Mr Ofori-Atta met the necessary statutory and legal requirements for an adjustment of status to a permanent resident.
