Africa Must Modernise And Document Its Cultures- Eswatini King

The Monarch of Eswatini Kingdom, His Majesty Mswati III, believes preserving and passing on African tradition and culture are not enough for good governance.

According to him, they must be modernised and documented to safeguard them.

“Preservation alone is not enough. We must modernise and document our cultures to strengthen their roles in governance and administration.”

By this, His Majesty believes traditions will find their rightful place in the laws of Africa.

“Our laws must be rooted in our traditions not superimposed foreign ideas. By codifying our customs, we ensure they are recognized globally and serve as a tool for good governance.”

His Majesty said this during his welcome durbar at the Manhyia Palace on June 26, 2025.

In the welcome address, Juabenhene, Nana Otuo Sereboe stated that King Mswati’s visit will rekindle the sacred ties that bind African thrones and people together.

“It is indeed a reaffirmation of our shared ancestor, our common destiny and undying beliefs in the dignity, resilience and future of the African continent.”

He further hoped for cultural, economic and spiritual exchanges that honour their past and build their future.

“We welcome you with royal honours and the blessings of our ancestors. May your footsteps on this land be gathered by peace, joy and purpose and may this encounter between two great Monarchs echo across Africa as a call to unity, heritage and progress.”
