Court Jails 42-Year-Old Man 10 Years for Defilement of 7-Year-Old Boy

A 42-year-old man, Elyasu Kunatich, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in Hard Labour by a Wa High Court for defiling a 7-year-old boy.

According to a press release issued by the Upper West Regional Police Command on July 23, 2026, the conviction was secured by the Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, DOVVSU, following investigation and prosecution.

The court, presided over by His Lordship Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi, found the accused guilty on Tuesday, July 23, 2026, after a full trial and sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment in Hard Labour.

Police said the convict was arrested on January 20, 2026, following a report made by the victim’s mother about an incident that occurred on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Police immediately commenced investigations and referred the victim to a medical facility for examination.

Psychosocial support was also provided to the child while the accused was remanded into police custody after being arraigned before the Wa High Court.

The Upper West Regional Police Command assured the public of its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and said it will continue to pursue all reported cases of child abuse and sexual and gender-based violence.

The Command also urged parents, guardians, caregivers, and members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of abuse to the nearest police facility for immediate action.
