Police Bust Human Trafficking and Cybercrime Ring, Rescue 57 Nigerians at Tema

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has dismantled a human trafficking and cybercrime syndicate operating from Adom Estates at Community 25, Tema, leading to the arrest of five suspects and the rescue of 57 Nigerian nationals.

The intelligence-led operation was conducted by the CID’s Operations Unit on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, following weeks of surveillance on the group’s suspected criminal activities.

The suspects, identified as Joel Nosa, Collins Rotimi, Shadrack Lulu, Austin Amahuaro, and John Uloko, are believed to have lured unsuspecting Nigerians into Ghana with false promises of jobs and educational opportunities.

In a statement issued by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, it was revealed that preliminary investigations found that the victims—aged between 18 and 26—were forced into online romance scams and other cyber fraud operations upon arrival.

The police recovered 77 laptops, 38 mobile phones, two vehicles, three television sets, and several other internet-enabled gadgets suspected to have been used in the criminal scheme. All items have been secured for forensic analysis.

The rescued victims are currently receiving care and rehabilitation support, while the arrested suspects remain in custody to assist with further investigations.

The Ghana Police Service cautioned the public, particularly young people, to be wary of enticing offers of employment, education, or travel opportunities made through social media or unverified agents.
