U.S. Embassy in Accra Announces Temporary Closure of Consular Section for Maintenance

The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Accra will be temporarily closed to the public from July 20 through July 31, 2026, for scheduled maintenance, the Embassy has announced.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Embassy said it will be unable to process visas and other consular services during the closure period, except in life-or-death emergency cases.

“All visa appointments that were to take place during this period have been rescheduled,” the Embassy stated.

Applicants affected by the rescheduling are expected to receive new appointment details directly from the Embassy.

For passport and Consular Report of Birth Abroad pickups, the Embassy said applicants who have already received an email confirming that their document is ready may visit on July 23 and July 30, between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The Embassy urged the public to rely on official communication channels for updates and further information.

The temporary closure is to allow for essential maintenance works within the Consular Section.

Regular consular operations are expected to resume on August 1, 2026.
