The Academic Trajectory Of Asantehemaa Nana Yaa Akyaa II

The academic foundation of the Asantehemaa, Nana Yaa Akyaa II, was laid at the Government Girls School, Kumasi, popularly known as Yaa Achiaa Girls.
Her Majesty enrolled at the school in 1952 and completed her primary education there in 1957.
The institution, one of the leading girls’ schools in the Ashanti Region at the time, gave her an early grounding in discipline, scholarship, and leadership.
Building on that foundation, she proceeded to Mmofraturo Girls’ Boarding School in 1958.
She spent four years there, from 1958 to 1961, where she further developed her academic abilities in a structured boarding environment that emphasised both learning and character formation.
Her Majesty then continued to St. Louis Girls’ Senior High School, one of Ghana’s most prestigious Catholic girls’ schools.
She attended from 1961 to 1966, completing her secondary education and graduating with the skills and confidence that would later serve her in public service.
Beyond formal schooling, Her Majesty also pursued vocational training in typing. This additional skill broadened her professional profile and equipped her for clerical and administrative work in the years that followed.
Her academic path — from Yaa Achiaa Girls, through Mmofraturo, to St. Louis — reflects a steady progression rooted in some of Kumasi’s finest institutions for girls’ education in the 1950s and 60s.
Nana Yaa Akyaa II was enstooled as Asantehemaa on July 6, 2026.
