Teacher Detained, Student Given Medical Report After Nyinahini Catholic SHS Confrontation

A teacher of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School has been detained by police after he allegedly assaulted an 18-year-old student during a confrontation at the school’s hostel.

The suspect, Eric Buernortey Apaflo, 39, who also serves as caretaker of the hostel, was arrested on Sunday, June 8, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m. by a Nyinahini District Police Patrol Team.

The arrest followed reports of an assault on student Patience Chibu, whose ordeal was captured in a viral video.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, preliminary investigations show Apaflo confronted Chibu and some male students over alleged misconduct at the hostel.

A misunderstanding during the exchange led to the suspect assaulting the student.

The incident sparked anger among other students who reportedly pelted stones at Apaflo and called in youth from the town to the hostel in an attempt to attack him.

Police officers intervened promptly to restore calm.

A Police Medical Report Form has been issued to Chibu for medical examination and treatment.

Apaflo remains in police custody, assisting with investigations.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command is urging the public to remain calm and to resolve grievances through lawful and peaceful means.
