Takoradi MCE Pleads “Not Guilty”, Granted ¢100k Bail

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Abdul Mummin Issah has pleaded not guilty to charges of road infractions and assault of a public officer.

He was arraigned in a circuit court in Sekondi today where he was granted a Bail of ¢100,000 with sureties after he was arrested yesterday, February 3, 2022.

He has been charged with three counts of assault on a public officer, offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace, and dangerous driving.

Abdul- Mummin Issah, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Takoradi called a police “Inspector” officiating his duties at a checkpoint at Kwesimintsim Cemetery on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, “stupid” and “ugly” after the police officer tried to stop the MCE from skipping checks, according to viral audio.

The audio is reportedly an interaction between the Takoradi MCE and a police “Inspector”.

Per the audio, the police officers “detained” the MCE for the reason that he tried to knock him down with the car when the former tried stopping the latter from bypassing the checkpoint.

The MCE is heard in the audio passing on a call placed to one Chief Inspector Dorcas to the police “Inspector” who felt hurt for being insulted. The Inspector however refuses to take the call and insists that he had reported to the headquarters and a patrol team was on its way to pick the MCE up.

“I have called a patrol team and reported you. They are going to take you to the headquarters and you will be dealt with…I’m a professional police officer, I will not insult you…Why are you insulting police”, the police officer went on.

The MCE on his side threatened, “You don’t know who you are dealing with, you will come begging tomorrow. I will send you to Enchi”.

But the police “Inspector” replied, “Transfer is not a punishment for police. My colleagues are there. Human beings are working there.”

Others standing by who could also be heard tried warning the police “Inspector”. “You don’t know who you are dealing with”, one said and then another added, “Massa calm down”.

Deaf ears were turned to the intervention by the police “Inspector” who felt the right thing should be done.

“You are ugly. A whole police officer? Who are you? You say a whole police officer. Apuu….Let him play his king kong thing. I have exercised patience for you to call whoever is coming. I could just pass by and there was nothing you could do. When I decide to pass by, what can you do? But I will be patient enough to wait for your patrol team which you have called to come and take me to headquarters. I could have just driven here and go and you could have done whatever you want to do tomorrow morning and it won’t go anywhere but I will be patient enough for your patrol team to come and take me to the headquarters’ “, the MCE confidently said.
